Wanita is Australia’s recognised Queen of Honky Tonk. This renegade redhead - a rough-talking, hard-drinking, singer/songwriter - views life through an autistic lens and is committed to the sound and stars of a bygone age in Country Music. In her own words, “I’m in the wrong era and so is the music I play.” Despite not always being at one with Australia’s mainstream Country scene, Wanita was inducted into the Australian Country Music ‘Hands of Fame’ in 2023.
Described by US Country music legend Billy Yates from Nashville as “… so consistently good”, Wanita’s voice is respected around the world. She’s toured in Europe and in 2013, owned the UK’s highest selling Country Music import album of the year. She’s even been the subject of a multi-award winning documentary film I’m Wanita, which in 2022 won ‘Best Music Documentary’ at London’s Raindance Festival and ‘Best Australian Documentary Feature’ at the Sydney Film Festivals among other selections in Nashville and Calgary.
With three albums already released and her latest, titled ‘Facets’ out now, Wanita is building a body of work in this genre that stands alone within her homeland.
FACETS is an album unlike anything else I’ve previously recorded. It’s about trying to make a difference to some important issues in our world, through my music.
